Did it really happen?

An interesting question that has arisen from the Bible story of Noah is did it really happen? For years, archaeologists have been saying "yes". Many scientists say that during a warming period 9,000 years ago the Black Sea was flooded with water and rose upwards of 150 feet. Now, according to a National Geographic article, this is not what happened. A new study claims that the Black Sea rose no more than 30 feet, hardly the epic flood depicted in the Bible.

So where did this story come from. It has been suggested that while the Bible speaks of divine miracles and God, things many people have a hard time believing, that many of the events are based on things that really did happen. In the above article, it is stated that the events of the Great Flood may have been very loosely inspired by this small rise of water, and that it really is just a mythical flood.
